Kate Ryan (she/her) is a designer and photographer in Hawaiʻi. She graduated from Barnard College with a degree in visual arts and photography.
Kate started out interning in Ryan McGinley's studio and the New Yorker magazine's photo department. Then, at Danziger Projects, she supported the curation of shows of contemporary photography. She then spent a formative time supporting contemporary artists via design, photography, production support, project management, and grant writing, including securing them major grants and awards from Creative Capital and the Guggenheim Foundation.
Now, for over a decade, Kate has collaborated with clients on designing books, branding, websites and printed matter. She is the editor and designer of Calabash, a cookbook featuring 26 local chefs in Hawaiʻi, raising funds for the ongoing relief efforts on Maui.
Kate currently runs an independent graphic design studio in Honolulu. She is taking book design clients and photography assignments, self-publishing small editions of books, as well as helping artists and brands tell their stories through identities and creative projects.
